I’ll never forget playing Ultima I on my Apple II computer late into each night during the summer of ‘81. Well my mom recently handed me a box of pictures from my childhood and I found a shot of the win screen:
See me proudly standing over the corpse of Mondain? I knew I must have been the first person in the world to win the game so I dialed 411 and got the number to California Pacific Computer. The next day I called the company and asked for Lord British.
“I am calling to tell Lord British that I killed Mondain! It said to contact you right away! Am I the first?”.
“Actually, no. But thanks for calling and look out for Ultima II available in stores soon.”

I’m not that old huhuhu…. turning 25 this January.
Ultima II, Ultima III… sigh… the only Ultimas I never got a chance to finish are Ultima 7 to Ultima 8. I am still thinking if I’ll buy Ultima 9, considering I am waiting for Richard Garriott’s new online game Tabula Rasa.
And argh, Akalabeth too! oh my…
